Lower Sixth: Developing Independent Study
You will need to think about how you will stand out from other university applicants when it comes to UCAS applications. Remember that staff will detail the wider academic skills you have developed in our school references to universities. This can be especially important in the context of more competitive applications.
How can you use independent study time?
- Review your learning to date. Watch this video to remind yourself of revision strategies.
- Complete additional learning relevant to your future university/career aspirations by:
- completing MOOCs or other online courses https://www.futurelearn.com/courses;
- entering essay competitions https://www.uniapplicationpro.org/resources;
- preparing academic subject society presentations.
- Read 'around' your topics using library online resources including the Hodder study guides (see library page for login details).
- Complete additional learning towards your Bedford School Independent Project (BSIP) or Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
- Use this table to record your learning . This will:
- Help you make conscious and independent choices about your education/direction.
- be a useful record of the work you have done.
- help you manage your additional study time.
- make you a little more conscious/accountable for your study periods.
