Short answers

Complete a group of shorter (3 and 6 mark) exam style questions under exam conditions. Then, complete the same question again in a different colour pen, using notes/books to help you. Now mark both versions of the answers. Now try and evaluate your performance and split topics into three categories:

  • Things I don’t remember – these are more likely to be things that you got correct with the notes, but you didn’t get the marks without notes
  • Things I don’t understand – these are more likely to be things that you didn’t get correct whether you had notes or not
  • Issues with exam technique – these are spotted when you mark the answers yourself

With the things you don’t remember, spend some time going over them individually using other memory techniques. For things that you don’t understand – seek out some help.

Word Definitions

A selection of keywords can be found on Firefly here. Pick a section of the specification and identify the key words and phrases. Now write out definitions of those words. This will make you think about what you are writing and how you define them. Now write your words and definitions on different cards and see how quickly you can match them. Try using the cards to play pairs or snap – if the word matches the definition, that’s a match.

History

This summer you should spend time revising your content knowledge.

  • You have done a lot of work this year learning content and how to structure answers to exam questions.
  • This summer focus on revising your content knowledge, because even if you know the structure for a marked question, you won’t earn many marks without content knowledge.

You should use GCSE pod.

You should also watch these Crash Course videos. You can slow down the speed if you like as he often talks quite quickly. But they’re a great revision of some of the things you learned this year.

Geography

Expected work - Complete the Natural Hazards learning grid to review content from this year.

Recommended work - Review the natural hazards course content using watching GCSEPod revision videos and using Educake to set yourself quizzes
